More Than Business: Supporting the Community That Means So Much to Taylor Studwelding
At Taylor Studwelding, we’re proud of the products we manufacture, the industries we support and the reputation we’ve built over more than four decades.
But being a family business has always meant more to us than business alone.
West Yorkshire has been home to Taylor Studwelding since the beginning, and supporting the local community – particularly charities and organisations that have touched the lives of our family and team – is something we feel incredibly strongly about.
Throughout 2026, we’ve once again been proud to get behind local events, raise funds and support causes close to our hearts.
And few organisations could be closer to the Taylor family than Wakefield Hospice.
Stepping Out for the Wakefield Hospice Pub Walk
On Saturday 18th July, 11 members of the Taylor team pulled on their walking shoes and joined hundreds of others for the fourth annual Wakefield Hospice Pub Walk.
The five-mile route started at Horbury Academy before heading through Horbury Junction, along the Calder & Hebble Navigation and through Horbury Bridge, eventually looping back into Horbury town centre.
With ten pubs along the route, plus live music, entertainment and fundraising activities, the Pub Walk was designed to bring people together for a brilliant summer day while raising vital funds for Wakefield Hospice. The event has grown significantly since it began, with the previous year's walkers raising more than £32,000 for the charity.
The Taylor team had a fantastic day taking part, enjoying the atmosphere and, most importantly, helping to raise money for a charity that means an enormous amount to us.
For the Taylor family, the connection with Wakefield Hospice is deeply personal.
Our founder, David Taylor, was cared for by the Hospice during the final weeks of his life. The compassion shown not only to David, but to his family around him, is something we will never forget.
It’s one of the reasons why opportunities to support Wakefield Hospice mean so much to everyone here at Taylor Studwelding.
Candles at the Castle – An Evening to Remember
Just a few weeks later, our support for Wakefield Hospice continued with an event that was particularly poignant for the Taylor family.
On Saturday 22nd August, Candles at the Castle returned to the beautiful surroundings of Sandal Castle – and Taylor Studwelding was incredibly proud to be one of the event sponsors alongside OE Electrics.
Now in its third year, Candles at the Castle gives people an opportunity to come together to remember and celebrate someone special.
Through donations to the appeal, people can dedicate a candle in memory of a loved one. These dedications then form a beautiful candle display at one of Wakefield’s most iconic landmarks, with donations helping Wakefield Hospice continue providing vital services to local patients and families.
This year's event welcomed more people than ever before, creating an incredible atmosphere as families, friends and members of the community gathered at Sandal Castle.
There was food, a bar and live music from Jim Taplin & Mick Holmes, Julian Jones and Molly Sutherley, while visitors could walk amongst the candle display, find the names of loved ones on the dedication wall and spend time remembering those who are no longer with us.
For Taylor team member Heather, it was a very special evening:
“It was such an incredible event to be part of, the setting was so beautiful. There was a bar, food, live music and so many people. It was a lovely atmosphere.”
As the evening continued and the sun began to set over Sandal Castle, the significance of the occasion became even more apparent.
Heather added:
“This event is a lot of hard work for the amazing organisers but it was truly amazing. It was such a beautiful place to remember loved ones, and watch the sun set.”
Wakefield Hospice describes Candles at the Castle as an evening of both celebration and reflection, and that balance was certainly felt by our team.
The Little Things That Mean Everything
Hospice care is about so much more than medical treatment.
It’s compassion, dignity and understanding. It’s supporting families through some of the hardest moments they will ever experience. And sometimes, it’s the smallest gestures that stay with you forever.
One particular memory shared by David’s granddaughter perhaps explains better than anything why Wakefield Hospice will always hold such a special place in the hearts of the Taylor family:
“Grandad loved watching the birds in his garden. After mentioning that to the staff, we came back on our next visit to find his bed had been turned so he could look out over the hospice gardens and watch the birds. It was such a small thing, but it meant everything to us.”
It’s a memory that has stayed with the family.
That simple act required no grand gesture. Someone listened. Someone cared. And at an incredibly difficult time, somebody took the time to make David’s day a little better.
That is the kind of care you never forget.
Continuing to Give Something Back
Our involvement with Wakefield Hospice isn't something we see as a one-off event or sponsorship opportunity.
We want it to be part of an ongoing commitment to supporting the people and organisations that make a difference within our local community.
That includes continuing our relationship with Wakefield Hospice, while also getting behind other local charities and causes that are important to members of the Taylor team.
As a business that has been part of the local area for more than 40 years, we know that no company exists in isolation. Behind Taylor Studwelding are generations of family, employees, customers, suppliers, friends and a wider community that has supported our journey.
Giving something back matters.
We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in organising both the Wakefield Hospice Pub Walk and Candles at the Castle, to the volunteers who give their time to make events like these possible and, of course, to the incredible team at Wakefield Hospice for everything they continue to do for local patients and their families.
We're incredibly proud to play our small part in supporting them – and we look forward to continuing to do so.
